Humansdorp
Humansdorp had grown from a small service centre for
the flourishing farming area in 1849, to busy town with
every imaginable kind of business. Humansdorp is the
entrance town to the Kromme River estuary and the
resorts of St Francis Bay and Cape St Francis and it is
the first economic centre from Port Elizabeth to Cape
Town. It lies at the foot of the Kouga Mountains and it
is here that the well known Garden Route starts. It is
87 km west of Port Elizabeth, 3 km off the N2 highway,
16 km from Jeffreys Bay, 20 km from St Francis Bay and
26 km from Cape St Francis.
Humansdorp has the facilities (like a modern hospital
and several doctors) of a city, but it cherishes the
small town charm, where people still care about each
other.
It has hiking trails and forest walks in the
vicinity, including the Boskloof Trail, boasting 46 bird
species, indigenous trees, fynbos and small antelope and
monkeys. No permit required.

A collection of farming implements and household
items grace the charming Humansdorp Museum building. At
the bottom of Main Street used to lay a fascinating
park, laid out in the form of a Union Jack. The Caravan
Park was built on the site.
There are ample accommodation establishments
available in Humansdorp.
At the top of Main Street the impressive Cultural
Centre, a fully eco-sustainable building, guards over
the town. Traditional Khoisan art is exhibited there.
The Zwartenbosch Country & Golf Club is in the process
of being developed as a 18 hole course.
